The Brainy Gamer has a fine tribute to George Carlin entitled "So Long, Asshole".
I'm one of those rare individuals that has become more liberal as he has grown older, and so I wasn't historically a fan of Carlin. I found him too preachy-leftie. But now being a bit older and wiser, I found that when I watched Carlin on HBO here and there, he made a lot of fucking sense. He spoke truth to power, and that is what always makes the great ones great. Carlin was an inimitable comic. Rest in peace, brother.

The world of roleplaying has lost another of its great minds: Eric Wujcik, who designed Amber Diceless Roleplaying, died this past weekend of pancreatic cancer. I want to echo the heartfelt sentiments of John Wick (designer of the acclaimed 7th sea RPG) when I say that Eric Wujcik was one of the greats because he was never afraid to break the rules. His designs taught me that when it's done right, the system fits the world hand-in-glove. The two enhance one another and cannot be separated. Amber didn't need dice – it felt Amber-ish, from character creation to the storylines to the meta-game, precisely because it was driven by the players instead of by chance. TMNT is eclectic and charming, much like the world itself. I can only hope to learn from the remarkable example that he set, and I would like to extend my deepest condolences to those who knew him.
